JONATHAN CHERRY: What got you started with photography?

GIORDANO: Some kind of personal and very trivial way to phenomenology, I felt that I could come to much higher conclusions on reality and truth through visuals. I started experiencing a very great phenomenon, namely that even if I was always concentrating on shooting the things themselves with the utmost respect, just as they were after finding me exposed somewhere/somewhat, with no script or fictions or special timing behind them, not even the most insignificant make up, at the end of the day I still got some very Other results, images that were constantly and radically else and forced me to stare at some new and very unexpected “pattern of connection”.

JC: Any emerging artists inspiring you at the mo?

G: I wouldn’t call it inspiration. I don’t think I’m inspired by visual memory, I’m pushed by very different urges. Nevertheless, if it’s about emerging artists, I discover great new ones almost everyday - today for instance, I just spent some one hour looking at this one … good stuff

JC: Whats your current project all about?

G: The most recent ones are called see no evil and rooms & gardens, the first one being some kind of attempt to show a constant space that repeats itself in different configurations and has the special property of being completely free of evil, the second one being about the giddy lack of reasons and meanings lurking in private rooms and yards and lots, and all those other places where/on which people usually work hard, without being able to name a deep and very real reason for such great efforts and sincere commitment - that special, very engaged and deeply senseless daze which comes to me as some kind of foreshadowing of well, death I’d say

JC: Where are you currently living and how is it shaping you?

G: In Berlin and in some millions ways, it’s such an unbelievably vicious and naive place at once, with a radically unique aura.

JC: Any big plans for 2012?

G: I’m currently working on two new photo series that I’d love seeing exhibited on the (relatively) short term. I’m planning on building a new bed with my own hands, choosing the right tree, fell it down …

JC: Favourite tree?

G: .. a huge black birch would be so nice.
